Fırat University achieved a significant success as 42 academics from the university made it to the top 2% of scientists globally, according to the list announced by Stanford University. The list, published on October 19, 2021, in the Elsevier database, includes 190,063 scientists who ranked in the top 2% based on their career-long impact and annual impact (2020 studies).

The list, compiled by Professor Dr. John P. A. IOANNIDIS and his research team at Stanford University, covers 22 main disciplines and 176 sub-disciplines, using key international criteria such as the number of quality publications, the impact factor of the journals where articles are published, citation counts, h-index, hm-index, patent counts, the number of first-author and single-author articles, the number of cited articles, and the impact factor of the journal where citing articles are published.

In the list created by considering only the "2020 studies" of scientists, 190,063 scientists in the top 2% were ranked. Among them, 1,150 faculty members from Turkey made the list, and Fırat University contributed with 42 faculty members. For the career-long impact ranking, which considers the scientists' work throughout their careers, 186,177 scientists were included, with 828 faculty members from Turkey and 29 from Fırat University.

Fırat University secured the second position in the ranking of universities with the highest number of academics in Turkey, with 42 academics listed. Istanbul Technical University topped the list with 50 academics, followed by Koç University with 38, Hacettepe University with 35, and Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) with 34.
