Our university, steadily improving its ranking every year and rapidly advancing towards becoming one of the world's prestigious universities, has achieved a significant success by being selected as a "Research University" by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
Continuing to elevate its position in both national and international rankings in all fields, our university has marked one of the most important achievements in its history by entering the list of "Research Universities," which includes the top 20 universities in Turkey.
The decisions taken within the scope of the "Specialization and Mission Differentiation Project" initiated by YÖK were announced to the public at the Research Universities Meeting held in Ankara. The meeting was attended by the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, YÖK members, our university's Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş, Vice-Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yılmaz, along with university rectors and invited guests. The meeting included the announcement of the Research Universities and the presentation of certificates.
The Research Universities Program, initiated as part of the "Specialization and Mission Differentiation Project," aims to create qualified knowledge in line with Turkey's priority goals and areas, promote interdisciplinary studies and collaborations, increase the number of doctoral researchers, strengthen international collaborations, and enhance the visibility of universities on the international stage. The evaluations of the universities participating in the program were made through the Research Universities Performance Monitoring Index under the categories of "Research Capacity," "Research Quality," and "Interaction and Collaboration," encompassing 32 indicators. At the meeting, the top 20 state universities and 3 foundation universities were announced as part of the program.
In the ceremony, it was revealed that our university had been selected as a Research University. Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş, received the Research University Certificate from the Minister of Industry and Technology, Mustafa Varank, and YÖK President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar.
Commenting on our university's selection as a Research University, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Göktaş said, "Fırat University has achieved one of its most significant successes in history by being selected as a 'Research University' by YÖK. I express my gratitude to all our academic and administrative staff as well as our students who contributed to this success. With this achievement, we proudly announce that a new era has begun at our university to the public."
The success ranking of the universities selected as Research Universities is as follows: Middle East Technical University, Istanbul Technical University, Boğaziçi University, İzmir Institute of Technology, Yıldız Technical University, Ankara University, Istanbul University, Erciyes University, Hacettepe University, Gebze Technical University, Ege University, Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa, Marmara University, Uludağ University, Dokuz Eylül University, Atatürk University, Gazi University, Çukurova University, Fırat University, and Karadeniz Technical University. Additionally, for the first time, foundation universities, namely İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent University, Sabancı University, and Koç University, have been included in the program.
