The Higher Education Council (YÖK) has initiated the Big Data Project with the aim of significantly boosting Turkish Higher Education on a national and international level.
YÖK President Prof. Dr. ÖZVAR announced that the Big Data Project, evaluated in the YÖK Advisory Board, has been implemented in 8 pilot universities, including Istanbul Technical University (İTÜ), Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ), Atatürk University, Izmir Katip Çelebi University, Sabancı University, Fırat University, Sakarya University, and Trabzon University, starting from today.
The activities of universities, including education, teaching, and research, are carried out with various sources such as students, educational materials, instructors, and the academic content produced by instructors. The increase in the number and scope of these activities over the last decade has led to the establishment of the concept of Big Data in Higher Education. The implementation of Big Data Analytics in Higher Education will enable discoveries of information in areas such as personalized curricula, student achievement evaluations, performance prediction and early warning, post-graduation employment analysis, and institutional performance analysis. The pilot universities selected for this program will carry out the necessary work for the establishment of these applications and technical infrastructure.
The criteria for the selection of the 8 pilot universities among 207 universities included being a Research University, the establishment of Digital Transformation offices, and having technical infrastructure competence in the integration of big data analytics in higher education. The pilot universities will implement these applications, and the goal is to generalize them to all other universities.
The meeting held at the Higher Education Council was attended by our university's Rector, Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ, and the Coordinator of the Digital Transformation and Software Office, Assoc. Dr. Mustafa ULAŞ.
